On November 13, as head of legal at Auka, I took part in a panel discussion at the 2018 Financial Institutions Conference organised by S&P Global in London. This conference explored the challenges and opportunities that disruption has created within the industry.
The discussion was moderated by Janet Kersnar, Deputy Managing Editor, S&P Global Market Intelligence. My co-participants were:
Financial industry disruption is a hot global topic. At the moment, due to many reasons (e.g. PSD2) many of the most robust discussions are taking place across Europe. Two other events of the same nature were hosted by S&P in Frankfurt on 17th October and Paris on 15th November.
I took part in the panel entitled: ‘The Future Of Banking – FinTech vs Banks: Co-Existence, Collaboration, Or Competition?’. The European banking industry will continue to face disruption for some time to come.
I can’t go into specific details about the points discussed due to the event’s Chatham House Rules, however, it centred around the prospects for consolidation throughout the industry, the normalisation of the monetary policy, the Eurozone banking forum and the growth of fintech. We also tackled topics on the threats/opportunities that fintech startups are facing and what the best business models to successfully scale are. Panellists also shared their on-the-ground customer insight and speculated on what the customer of the future looked like.
